The Early Years
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on February 5th, 1985, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. Coming from a humble background, Ronaldo had to take on odd jobs to help his family make ends meet. His mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, worked as a cook while his father, José Dinis Aveiro, worked as a gardener and part-time kit man at a local club.
The Rise to Stardom
Ronaldo’s talents were evident from a young age, and he was soon signed up to one of the top youth teams in Portugal. He was soon spotted by a scout from Sporting Lisbon, one of the biggest clubs in Portugal, who saw his potential and signed him up for their club. Ronaldo soon made a name for himself, and his star was on the rise. His impressive performances for Sporting Lisbon earned him a move to Manchester United in 2003.
Manchester United and Beyond
Ronaldo quickly became a fan favourite at Manchester United, where he spent six successful seasons. He won numerous awards and trophies with the club, including three Premier League titles, one Champions League title, and the coveted Ballon d’Or award in 2008. After a successful stint with Manchester United, Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid in 2009, where he has since become one of the most successful and decorated players in the world.
International Success
In addition to his success at club level, Ronaldo has also enjoyed a successful career with the Portuguese national team. He has been an integral part of the team since his debut in 2003 and has scored a record-breaking 77 goals in 150 appearances. He helped lead Portugal to their first major international title in 2016, when they won the European Championships.
